Robert and Enola Christian opened The Beer Essentials in October 1994 in Spanaway, Washington in a 960 sq. ft. store front. We have continued to grow our business since its inception and two years later we purchased one of the area's oldest beer and wine making stores - The Lil Brown Jug - in Tacoma. Since that time we have consolidated the two stores into one 3600 sq. ft. central location in Lakewood, Washington.
In early 1998 we added a website to our business and in late 1999 we added a Wine on Premise. We firmly believe that by providing our customers with quality ingredients, fair prices, exceptional service and knowledgable staff we can pass along the great art of home brewed beer and wine making to our customers, helping them become more proficient and thus happier, more satisfied brewers/winemakers.
We are located south of Tacoma, Washington in Lakewood.
From Seattle or Olympia:
Take I-5 to the Puyallup exit (State Route 512)
Head east towards Puyallup
Take the first exit - Steele Street
Turn left onto Steele Street.
Turn right at the first stoplight - 112th Street South
The store is approximately 2 blocks down on the left side.
Our building is ajacent to McChord AFB's runway. If you pass the runway or see the runway lights you have gone too far and need to turn around.
NOTE! There is roadwork on this stretch of road. It currently has a "Road Closed" sign on it. The store is located just BEFORE the road closes and can still be accessed.
